Refractions of the Self by Existential Symmetry
Born in bursts of pure creative urgency, this demo came together almost as if summoned—four tracks captured in a single session, followed months later by a fifth. At its core lies inspired and unrestrained music work. The result is an unfiltered snapshot of two musicians channeling years of mutual respect, shared intensity, and musical fire.
About the Album
A raw plunge into instrumental prog-metal, Refractions of the Self pushes both speed and subtlety across five tracks: Imposed Nadir, Parallels, The Color of Reprieve, Teaching Your Shadow to Be Still, and Immense. Expect blistering riffs, fearless improvisation, and passages that swing from precision to chaos- all while carrying a deep emotional current.
Musical Identity
Existential Symmetry thrives on collision: structured composition against free improvisation, clarity against distortion. Influences like Cynic’s Focus and Textures thread through the work, most vividly in the middle movement of Immense, where inspiration crystallized into a defining passage that anchors the record.
Creative Background
Existential Symmetry is the meeting point of Παῦλος καὶ Νιήλ – longtime collaborators who had already shared stages and sparked fire in one another’s bands. With this project, they distilled that chemistry into a collection that is at once raw, spontaneous, and defiantly unpolished. Refractions of the Self captures not perfection, but presence: two musicians in dialogue, burning through sound.
